As a young woman living in the Bay Area, going out can be expensive! Still, that doesn't mean we have to miss out on luxuries! There are plenty activities to do for free or less than half the price. I was listening to music in my studio on a Saturday, pondering what to do with my time for the evening. I was burning a candle with a beautiful scent that led me my mind to a brilliant idea. With my aromatherapy, my red wine, and my playlist I decided to have a Sip and Paint at home!
It was my first time doing anything like it, and I am so happy that I did. It was the calming exercise I needed. Continue reading to see how you can experience the same feeling.
Step #1 - Create the atmosphere

Collect the key elements for setting the mood: A bottle of wine, or a cup of tea to help you relax and unwind. A candle to bring peace and comfort to your spirit. A curated playlist to create the right atmosphere. A selection of hors d'oeuvres to keep your hunger at bay.
Step #2 - Gather your materials
Prepare your work station. It does not have to be anything fancy!

Step #3 - Go with the flow
Keep in mind that perfection is not the goal here. Instead, strive to finish the night with something you can be proud of. Embrace your role as an artist in this moment and watch everything come together beautifully.
Step #4 - Begin

Start off with a clean sketch on your canvas. I am using a 3x5 wood panel. I am painting the Eye of Horus, symbol of protection and healing.

First, use the "building" technique, moving from the background to the foreground, to add depth. Start by painting the background gold- a mix of yellow and a pinch of red to tint.
Go into the further parts of the eye with a lighter shade of gold.

Next, outline the eye, iris, and eyebrow with a dark midnight blue. Mix blue with black until it looks like the night sky.

Fill in the outline with an Egyptian blue. Mix blue with the midnight blue you created to achieve this color.
Go back into the iris with a deep midnight blue to finish.
Step #5 - Finishing touches

Clean up edges with a fine brush. Go into the background with different hues of gold. Add highlights of light blue and white to the eye for effect. Lastly, sign your masterpiece!
Admire your work!
You possess an incredible ability to craft something effortlessly simple yet remarkably beautiful. Embrace your creations with admiration and acknowledge the effort you've put into them. Take a moment to contemplate your emotions as you bask in the satisfaction of completion. Carry this feeling with you as you indulge in a weekend dedicated to self-love.
